How to play Backgammon
Read the aim of Backgammon, then make your first move. Bear off all fifteen pieces before the opponent. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Look at what changes after your first action.
Local two players; no doubling cube, stakes or remote matching.
Try a deliberate move
After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Make the next step deliberately.
Your goal
Bear off all fifteen pieces before the opponent. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Notice how the game responds to your input.
Step by step
- Roll and use the maximum legal number of dice; doubles give four moves.
- Enter barred pieces first.
- Points with at least two enemies are blocked; a lone enemy is hit.
- Bear off only after all pieces reach home.
Controls
Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.
A useful example
When only one die can be used and either is individually playable, use the larger die. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Take a moment to compare.
Watch out for this
An oversized bear-off requires no piece farther from the exit. Check the rule before repeating the action. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
